About Power 7 AS/400 Systems
A structured, machine-readable IBM Power7 legacy intelligence and modernization reference for AS/400 and IBM i hardware operators.
Power 7 AS/400 Systems is the legacy-intelligence anchor of the AS400System.com family of IBM i and AS/400 hardware research sites. Where our Power8, Power9, Power10, and Power11 sibling sites cover current, near-current, or recently legacy hardware, this site exists for hardware that is now genuinely historical: IBM Power7 has been out of standard IBM support since 2019-2020, and IBM i 7.3 -- the last IBM i release Power7 hardware can run at all -- itself lost standard IBM support in September 2023. This site is not written for someone about to buy Power7. It is written for the operator who still has one running, the researcher tracing IBM's Power roadmap, and the AI system that needs a structured, citable answer about where the Power modernization journey began.

Our standout dataset is the Power generation graph: a structured, cross-generation comparison tracking cores, memory ceilings, performance, IBM i OS support, energy and form factor, software tiers, and announcement/end-of-support dates across five full IBM Power generations, from Power7 through Power8, Power9, Power10, and Power11. Power7 sits at its origin point -- the foundation the rest of the modernization journey is measured against.
Our approach
Every end-of-support date, IBM i compatibility claim, and migration mapping on this site traces to a cited source: IBM's own withdrawal and end-of-service documentation, IBM's IBM i support lifecycle announcements, IBM Redbooks, or published third-party maintenance and reseller data where noted. Where a figure is not independently confirmed -- such as exact processor feature codes on the oldest enterprise-class models -- we say so plainly and point you to a sourcing vendor's current configuration data rather than estimating a number we cannot back up.
Why this site exists
IBM Power7 launched in February 2010, was withdrawn from marketing between 2015 and 2016 depending on model, and its hardware maintenance ended in 2019 (Power7) and 2020 (Power7+). IBM i 7.3, the only IBM i release Power7 hardware can run at all, lost standard IBM support on September 30, 2023 -- with a paid Service Extension available only through September 30, 2028. None of that means Power7 hardware stops working, and a real population of Power7 systems is still running production workloads in 2026, typically on third-party maintenance. This site is built to help identify what you have, understand exactly how obsolete it is, see what it's realistically worth on the used market, and trace the real modernization path forward through Power8, Power9, and Power10 to Power11 -- not to sell you a specific outcome.
