What's It Worth?

What Is Your Power7 Worth?

The real 2026 used and refurbished market for IBM Power7 hardware, parts, memory, and processors -- and why the answer is different for entry and enterprise models.

IBM Power7 was withdrawn from marketing in 2015-2016, so there is no new-hardware price to reference -- everything on the market today is used, refurbished, or parted out. Value at this stage of the lifecycle depends far more on parts availability and TPM eligibility than on raw performance, since Power7's performance is now several generations behind current Power hardware regardless of configuration.

Approximate 2026 used/refurbished market ranges

Indicative Power7 used and refurbished hardware pricing

Model TierApproximate Range (USD)What Drives the Range
Entry Express (710/720/730/740)Low hundreds to low thousandsCore count, memory installed, and whether it is sold with active TPM coverage
Power 750/755/760 ExpressRoughly $6,750-$8,500Configuration (core count, memory) and condition; 760 pricing per reseller list data
Power 770 (9117-MMx)Roughly $8,000-$36,000+Number of enclosures/nodes populated, core count, and memory installed
Power 780 (9179-MHx)Roughly $18,000-$80,000+TurboCore configuration, node count, and memory; the widest range of any Power7 tier
Power 795 (9119-FHB)Highly variable, enterprise quote requiredLargest and most configuration-dependent Power7 system; typically sold through direct reseller quote rather than list pricing

Ranges are indicative, sourced from published reseller pricing data as of 2026, and will vary meaningfully by exact configuration, condition, and included support. Get a current quote from a reseller before budgeting against these figures.

Where the real value is in 2026

Replacement partsProcessor books, CDIMMs, and drive backplanes for models still under active TPM contracts
MemoryDDR3 CDIMMs sourced from decommissioned systems, often the most in-demand Power7 component
Complete systems for sparesBuying a second unit purely to cannibalize for parts is a common strategy for shops extending an existing Power7 system's life
TPM-eligible unitsA system a third-party maintenance provider will still cover is worth meaningfully more than an equivalent unit that is not

If you are the one selling or retiring a Power7 system rather than buying, the same logic applies in reverse: a system with documented maintenance history and TPM eligibility, sold with its original memory and processor configuration intact, realizes more value than a bare chassis.

Sourcing and disposition

IBM i and AS/400 hardware resellers such as Midland Information Systems, along with general used-Power resellers, carry Power7 systems, parts, and memory, and can quote current pricing for a specific configuration. See our maintenance page for the TPM and sourcing vendor directory.

Before spending meaningfully on used Power7 hardware or parts, weigh the purchase against the IBM i 7.3 ceiling and 2028 Service Extension deadline on our end-of-support page -- extending a system's hardware life does not extend its software support life.
