HMC (Hardware Management Console)
The appliance or virtual appliance used to manage LPARs, firmware, and virtualization on IBM Power hardware.
Current HMC code versions do not manage Power7 (or Power8) hardware -- a migration to Power9 or later typically requires a current HMC alongside (or replacing) whatever console currently manages the Power7 system.
